Reads what gemma-4-31b-it is disposed to say before it says it, using the Jacobian lens (Anthropic, 2026) with the pre-fit lens published by Neuronpedia — no lens fitting required.

The measurement is deliberately narrow and checkable:

• —Which surface caught a concept — the Jacobian readout, or the emitted text.
• —How early — lead time in tokens between the two.
• —The actual text at each surface, verbatim.

No safety claim is made here. On ordinary prompts these models already refuse essentially everything harmful, so there is no headroom to improve; what this demonstrates is observation latency, which is measurable and real.
